Phnom Penh: Three convicted environmental activists are facing another charge on “conspiracy” case in connection with the group Mother Nature’s movement. The three activists, Thon Rotha, Pon KeoRasmey and Long Kunthea, were sent to Phnom Penh Court this week. Licadho monitoring manage,r Am Sam Ath has told EAC News that they are following the case with new charges against them. This is in addition to the previous “conspiracy” case for “insulting the king”. He says, “This is a serious charge for the three because they have already been charged.”

EAC News contacted the defendant’s lawyer, Som Sokong but no response yet. Phnom Penh Municipal Court sentenced Rotha on 5 May to 20 months in jail while 18 months each for KeoRasmey and Kunthea. The conviction was based on “Incitement Causes Serious Chaos to Social Security” following their protest on Phnom Penh’s Beung Tamok reclamation project.
